Student Snippets A Window Into The Daily Life & Thoughts of SLIS Students

Emily Jones

Hi, everyone! My name is Emily (she/her) and I’m in my first semester studying Library & Information Science with a Cultural Heritage Informatics concentration. I attended Mount Holyoke College in Western Mass where I studied Anthropology with a minor in Museums, Archives, and Public History. I moved to the Brookline area over the summer and have loved exploring the area! My favorite spots in Boston so far have been the Boston Public Library at Copley and Chinatown because I miss my mom’s cooking. This semester I’m taking LIS 407: Information Sources & Services, LIS 415: Information Organization, and LIS 432: Concepts in Cultural Heritage Informatics. I have loved LIS 432 because I have always been interested in museums and LIS 415 has been outside of my comfort zone but I enjoy learning about something new. I’m looking forward to the rest of my semesters at Simmons and exploring the Boston area more!

Looking Forward

I can’t believe the semester is almost over! My first semester went by so fast that I feel like it just started. I have been enjoying the warmer weather and getting to walk around Boston. I haven’t spent the Spring yet in Boston so I’m excited to see all the flowers bloom. While I’m looking forward to the semester ending so I can have a break, there is a lot of work to do between now and the end of the semester.  It’s almost time for fall class registration and I have been planning my classes for next semester. I’m looking forward to next semester and getting to take more electives. Graduate class registration is not as stressful as undergrad classes were so I don’t mind this process. The SLIS faculty is also smaller so I feel like it’s easier to know someone who has taken the class or had the professor before.
