Things I’m Looking Forward to in Spring/Summer 2026

Hi readers!

Three days ago, I noticed a row of bright yellow daffodils blooming on Huntington Avenue. As soon as I saw them I stopped to take a photo and send it off to my family groupchat. “My first sighting of spring flowers!” I said. And I’m not the only one. Five days before that, a classmate spotted snow drops. And just two hours ago, my best friend out in Cleveland told me excitedly that, “Spring has sprung! The trees in front of my apartment are starting to grow buds!”

Have you noticed Spring growing in your own backyard? I hope so! Winter was cool (ha ha) but I’ll be so glad to see her go. Spring—I am ready for you. Not just for warmer weather and pretty flowers, but everything else too. I’ve said before that this semester is a busy one, and I mean it. I’ve never been as busy as I am now. I also passionately said something about always having time for my movies and books, no matter how busy I get.

…Ha.

But that’s what we’re here to talk about today! While I may not have time lately to indulge in all of the usual habits that make me happy, I feel like those flowers were a nice universal reminder that soon, I will. And I’m allowed to be excited about that! Once we get through the hard part, it’s flowers and sunshine on the other side! So in the spirit of Spring, here’s a little list of fun things I’m looking forward to this Spring/Summer (completely unrelated to work or school).

Movies, movies, and more movies.

The day I don’t talk about them is the day you’ll know I’ve been hacked…(kidding, mostly). So which ones, specifically, am I most excited for?

The Drama — April 3, starring Robert Pattinson and Zendaya

This one might be out by the time you read this, but I’m still including it. Two of my favorite actors, set in Boston no less? I need no more convincing.

The Devil Wears Prada 2 — May 1, starring Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep and Emil Blunt

The first movie is such a beloved part of my childhood that I’m honestly a little scared to see what they’ve done with this sequel. But more excited than not! Anyone else feel that way??

Supergirl — June 26, starring Milly Alcock

I’ve been anticipating this one since the day we met Milly’s Supergirl at the end of Superman (2025). Fun fact about me: I love Superman. And this is coming out on my birthday week! Looks like I’ve got plans.

The Odyssey — July 17, starring Matt Damon

Obviously there are more stars than Matt Damon in this, but I’m not going to sit here and type them all, lol. Attached to this movie is something else I’m looking forward to—reuniting with my brother! As Christopher Nolan geeks, we are literally planning his visit around this movie so that we can see it together. We might even see it twice; once in IMAX at AMC and again at the Coolidge Corner Theater in 70MM film.

Spiderman: Brand New Day — July 31, starring Tom Holland

A movie I have also been anticipating since those set photos in Glasgow dropped. The trailer just came out about a week ago too! I used to be such a Marvel kid in my teens. The whole MCU franchise holds a special place in my heart. I’ve fallen off with a lot of the newer projects, but Spiderman is not one of them. I’m beyond ready for this.

Local Events & Activities

The Boston Marathon — April 20

I don’t know anybody running, but it’s the Boston Marathon! I’m going to research good places to cheer from and enjoy the show J

Shakespeare in the Park

Commonwealth Shakespeare Company will be staging A Midsummer Night’s Dream this June and July at Boston Common.

Red Sox Game at Fenway Park

Hopefully one against the Tampa Bay Rays! An overpriced hot dog with ketchup is calling my name.

A Ballet or Broadway Show

I haven’t decided which, but I’ll definitely be doing one of these! It’ll really just depend on price.

The last time I saw Les Miserables I sobbed literally the entire time. I’m not exaggerating. Do you hear the people sing…

Fireworks! Outdoor movies!

Where? When? I don’t know, the schedules aren’t out yet. But I’m going!

Downtown Boston Arts Market

It’s always a treat to see what the vendors have. The last time I went, I got a bookmark from a watercolor artist and a pretty gold ring!
