Sick Day: A Photo Journal

Yesterday I woke up and immediately knew my time had come. Yes, I had finally caught the dreaded 24-hour flu bug. I so rarely get sick, it came as a bit of a surprise, but regardless of how I felt about it there was no denying…I was sick! I’ll spare you the details of what “sick” meant in my case, but I will tell you that getting up off the couch to take a shower at one point almost killed me. So, I hunkered down and made the best of a nasty day. Usually when I feel like this, I love to be a home with my mom, snuggling on the couch and eating her miracle-working scrambled eggs. But since my mom is all the way back in Minnesota, I had to fend for myself this time. Here is my magic formula for self-healing as a graduate student…

A big comfy couch, preferably with cozy blankets and pillows

A laptop computer to fend off boredom

And what good is a laptop without your favorite binge-worthy show? Sherlock is my poison of choice, but feel free to insert your own here.

If you can manage to get up off the couch, you might want to make yourself a mild snack. And let’s be honest…we all know “mild” means “boring”. But sometimes that’s all a poor stomach can handle.

If you’re feeling rather ambitious, you could try to tackle some homework. Be warned, however…sick brain is a real thing. I wouldn’t trust yourself to write anything of significance without checking it over once you’re feeling better. Trust me, Moodle and the flu don’t mix!

Finally, when the day is nearing an end, migrate back to bed and get some much-needed beauty sleep. Because we all know that grad school life waits for no man/woman/flu bug!

Follow this formula, and you’ll be back to your spunky self in no time. Or, don’t get sick in the first place! 🙂 Stay healthy everybody!
