Back to School

It’s September, which means it’s back-to-school time.  And in my family, three of the four of us return to school (my husband continues on as a lawyer, without the seasonal changes of second grade, fourth grade or library school).  Last year, my daughters and I all started on the same day, and it was kind of crazy.  This year, we start at different times, and it’s still kind of crazy.  That’s the way it is, I’ve learned, when you’re both a parent and a student.

I know what to expect this year, though, and that will make things so much easier.  I know that my classes will be a lot of work, but that the work will all get done.  I know there will be times that I really need to work on something for school, but a family matter will take precedence (and that the work will still get done).  I know that I will feel older than my classmates (because I am), but that there are other SLIS students who are parents and over 40, and I also know that the younger, child-less students are super nice.

And most importantly, I know that I love working in libraries and am thankful for the opportunity to transition careers at this point in my life.  Thanks, SLIS!
